Reflection
Now that I am done with this 4-H year I am so happy with everything that I accomplished. I think that I did a very good job at everything that I participated in. This can be everything from holding an office to helping my club get honors club. In my office I tried to not only to give treasurer reports, but I also tried helping the new members feel welcomed. We did a lot of team bonding games to make them feel welcomed and for everyone to get to know each other. Even with my other leadership councils, I tried so hard to learn how to become a better leader and what it takes to gain more leadership skills. When I was learning about leadership, I also came across the honors club requirements. Then I helped my club gather all of the officer reports and put it into a binder. This honors club will help our club get the recognition that it deserves and then we might get many more new members after they see what our club is capable of. I think overall that this was my best year in 4-H because I learned a lot about leadership and my club.
4-H has affected me because it made me grow as a person. I am very shy and if you ask anyone who has met me everyone will tell you that they thought I was mute. Then I joined 4-H and I grow every year. This year I grew as a leader because I took many different leadership opportunities. I can now give speeches in front of crowds and I can hold a conversation with anyone. This is a huge growth from where I started from. I owe everything to 4-H and to my mentor for showing me the way in 4-H and life.
I have changed as a person because now I am more full of confidence. I used to not believe in myself and I would never do anything on my own because I did not think that I was good enough. 4-H gave me the confidence to do anything that I set my mind to. I can now talk to anyone about anything and I can also finish multiple projects. I have so much confidence now, that it is hard for me to only take just a couple of projects. I am so glad that I joined 4-H. It has made me a better person.
When I first started this year, I thought that I could never be a leader in my county. I never saw myself speaking in front of large groups. Now, I can see myself not only being a county leader, I see myself being a state leader as well. Next year I want to go on the 4-H Washington D.C. trip so that I can learn leadership skills from people around the country. I can also see myself speaking in front of a whole room full of people. 4-H changed my viewpoint of the world and I do not see anything that will hold me back.
This was a very meaningful experience because I learned so much about myself that I would have never learned with any other activity. 4-H brought me out of my shell and now I am unstoppable. My mom tried to get me out of my shell many years before. She put me in singing classes, dance classes, gymnastic classes, soccer, pageants, acting on stage, acting in movies, acting in commercials, and much more. Nothing worked until I was put in 4-H. Now I can do anything in life. In school I can now ask teachers questions and I can present projects in front of my whole class. I thought that this was impossible, but it is not and it is all thanks to 4-H.
I learned many different skills that I can use throughout my life. I learned that if you want to present your findings, you want to use bullet points because then you have more contact with the people you are presenting it to and it is not cluttered. Then you want to dress for the occasion. If your dress in sweatpants, no one will take you seriously. If you dress up, then you look more professional and people will listen to you. I also learned that if you are in a job interview or any interview, you want to shake the person's hand before and after the interview. This shows that you are professional and it is polite. The last skill that I learned was leadership. No matter what group you are in, every group needs a leader. This leader makes sure that everything gets done on time and they also make sure that everyone is doing their part in the project. I want to be an engineer when I grow up and there is a lot of group projects, so someone needs to step up to be the leader. With the skills I learned in 4-H, I could be that person who leads the group.
If I were to start this experience all over again I would only change one thing. I would go back to Monday July 16, 2018. This is the nutrition day. When I presented my project the first time, I did not re-read my project book, so I had no idea what was in the book. When the judge asked me questions about my book, I had no idea what the answers were. So I ended up getting a bad score. If I was not the only person in that category, I would not have gone to the state fair and I would definitely not have won the clock trophy. If I could go back in time, I would have gone back through my project book so I knew the answers to the questions. This is so I could get a better grade and if there was another person in my group, there would be no doubt on who to send to the state fair. This is the only thing I would change.
